Welcome to the weekly mindfulness and Vipassana meditation class conducted by me on Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8.30pm. Every Wednesday evening I give a 30 minutes talk on Dhamma, meditation, mindfulness, neuroscience, Buddhist philosophy, psychology, well-being, peace, stress-relief, ect. In this first video, Bhante Saranapala first outlines the retreat. Then the retreat begins by undertaking the 8 precepts (chanting in Pali followed by English recitation) and finally there is a short explanation of the meaning of the precepts.
By studying the life of elder (enlightened) monks we can learn how they practice.
In our society we always do things to gain or achieve something. So what do we gain or achieve when we let go?
The Buddha explains that to be free from suffering the only thing you need to practice is mindfulness of the breath.
“…A bad thought is like a cobra passing by, you don’t touch it as it will sting, intoxicate and poison you. The practice is to replace unwholesome thoughts by cultivating good ones which will give you peacefulness and happiness.”
